COVID Information for Families

Thank you so much for your patience as we adapt to changes in Public Health requirements for responding to COVID-19. This is an update on recent changes and  LWSD's efforts to implement these changes efficiently.

Lake Washington School District is providing the following information to help families and staff navigate the frequent changes associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. We continue to follow guidance from Public Health King County when it comes to determining when students can safely return to school. Isolation and quarantine for students and staff that present with symptoms, test positive, or are identified as close contacts are important safety measures to help prevent transmission of COVID-19 within our schools.

We will continue to work closely with Public Health and will continue to evaluate the impact on our students and schools.

COVID-19 symptoms include:

  • Fever of over 100.4° F
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea (2 or more loose stools in 24 hours)

Unvaccinated students and staff identified as close contacts:

  • Quarantine can end after five full days beginning after the last close contact (the date of last close contact is considered day 0) if no symptoms have developed and after receiving a negative test result from a test taken no sooner than day five.

Students and staff who are vaccinated and do not have symptoms do not need to quarantine.

Students and staff with symptoms of illness are required to isolate for 5 full days OR present a negative COVID test in order to return to school.

Students cannot return to school after isolation or after receiving a negative test until they have been without a fever for 24 hours (without fever-reducing medication) and no symptoms are present or their symptoms are resolving.

Families should access free testing sites or work with private providers as the first option for testing.

For families that cannot access these resources, the district will be offering testing.

Families will need to sign a consent form and provide insurance information (if available). There is no cost for testing.

Families will need to schedule an appointment for testing within the district.

The period of time to receive results is variable but typically 2-3 days.
